The Invisible Party

With Richard Branson at the helm, Virgin Voyages is redefining the “cruise” ship”. The new cruise line reached out to create the on-board art program for The Scarlet Lady, its first ocean liner. The goal? Create a unique experience for guests that appeals to a younger, discerning target market.

From the start, design and art have been key in The Scarlet Lady’s creation. Virgin Voyages aims to attract young-at-heart sailors seeking a modern lifestyle at sea,

About The Scarlet Lady

breaking from tradition like its Virgin predecessors. A unique aspect was collaborating with The Invisible Party to introduce an art experience unlike traditional cruise ships.

Connect the various spaces, interiors designed by renowned architects and on-board programming as a red thread throughout the ship by creating installations and interventions. Form a narrative which embodies the brand and its life at sea while amplifying the guest’s unique on-board experience.

The curated and bespoke artworks tell the story of life at sea at different wave lengths. Tune in on these stories by going through our fictive Virgin Voyages record collection. Our on board art program.⚓️

Artist collaborations

We collaborated with artists who resonate with the Virgin Voyages brand vision, creating works that enhance The Scarlet Lady’s narrative. Their distinct styles allowed us to design installations that cater to various moods, experiences, and spaces. For this project, we guided the artists, acting as a bridge between them and Virgin Voyages. The following artists participated in the art program of Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady:  Adele Renault, Alexis Diaz, Elise, Jan Melka, Mandy Barker, Mental Klinic, Niels “Shoe” Meulman.

Tying it all together

The Invisible Party curated works from both established and emerging artists, each adding to the ship’s story and character through their unique practices. The diverse artworks displayed, from sculptural installations to murals painted directly on the walls, embody the Virgin Voyages brand and vision.

In addition to the artists' contributions, The Invisible Party designed and crafted numerous in-house art pieces, from tapestries to accessories, to neon signs.
